YES…. The YES Academy Thailand is back for 2013!

The new dates: May 4 to 12, 2013

In 2013, all classes will be held at Chulalongkorn University in the Chamchuri 9 facility. In 2013, we are offering the following program:

  • New! Conducting
  • New! Composition
  • Strings, Chamber Music and Orchestra
  • Jazz Big Band and Combos
  • Broadway Musical Theater
  • Hip Hop and Break Dance
  • Teacher Training: String Pedagogy, Young Professionals Program in Conducting and Composition

This program is for everyone in Thailand: North, South, East, West and the tuition is again completely free of charge thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the U.S. Embassy, Chulalongkorn University and Amway.

Limited scholarships are available to support travel expenses based on distance traveled and demonstrated talent. Dormitory rooms are again available for approximately 70 baht per night.

We will continue to expand our international program with participants from ever more ASEAN and S. Asian countries: Vietnam, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Pakistan.

Your YES Academy teachers are recruited from America’s finest Universities and Institutions. We are pleased to continue building artistic bridges between the United States and Thailand and the rest of Asia.

 

New in 2013!

More music! We are adding new artist teachers to the following programs:

Conducting: Conductor  Scott Parkman of Boston will be joining the academy for the first time. Read all about Scott here: http://www.scottparkman.com/

Composition: Composer Patrick Clark of University of Missouri-Columbia  will be joining the academy for the first time in a program young and young professional composers and arrangers

String Orchestra: Scott Parkman will conduct the YES Orchestra, Violinist Vadim Mazo and Cellist Bruce Walker  will join Dr. Greg Hurley in a new program of orchestra, chamber music, teacher training and private lessons.

Broadway Musical Theater: Michael Parks Masterson is back with help from Brian Jones of New York City in a full program featuring excerpts from contemporary and classical Broadway musicals such as Legally Blonde, Wicked,  Mulan, Rent, Newsies, Harispray and Mama Mia

 Jazz: Dr. Gene Aitken and Mariano Abello will lead a a Big Band, Combo and Broadway show band program including additional training in combos and masterclasses.

Teacher Training: We will continue to offer opportunities for teachers of music in the areas of string pedagogy and the new Young Professionals Program in  Conducting and Composition.

The YES Academy concept was developed by American Voices, a NGO based in the United States and in Thailand. The project is led by Executive Director, John Ferguson in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States. Other YES Academy programs take place annually in Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan and Malaysia.
